All Scottie Dad has to do is say the word. One little, monosyllabic word and our home would be open to at least one, if not two, more rescue Scotties. Alas, putting my desire to give another deserving pup a furever home aside, practicality calls and I must reason with myself that having one or two more Scotties plus two grown hoomans in an 800 square foot condo might be a bit of a squeeze. (Ok, no – I don’t believe that in my heart. The more, the merrier, in my opinion…especially if you have the resources to provide the care Scotties need but I bet it makes Scottie Dad feel better reading that I’m at least trying to think practically!)
And since me and the fur kids have not been able to successfully talk — and ArRrOOo — Scottie Dad into adopting another brother or sister for Heather and Mr. K, my desire to become a foster Scottie Mom is stronger. Rest assured that the minute Scottie Dad and I find a home and are settled in the ‘burbs, there will be no excuse why we shouldn’t foster a Scottie (or two!) and show Scottie Dad there’s plenty of room in this Scottie Mom house and heart for another fur kid. Think of all the good being a foster Scottie Mom would do…
1. The Scottie, and consequently, your world would be a happier place. Let’s face it: it doesn’t take much more than a loving home to keep a Scottie happy. And where there’s a happy Scottie, there’s an even happier foster Scottie Mom. Knowing you’re making a difference is rewarding in and of itself. Knowing that your foster Scottie will never forget you for what you did for him or her makes the whole experience priceless. Just ask Heather and her foster Scottie Dad and family.
2. Everything’s suddenly better together. Not only will you, the foster Scottie Mom, make life easier on the foster Scottie dog and give him or her a shot at a normal life, that same Scottie dog will make sure you come out of the situation a better person as well. He or she will have taught you to think creatively, laugh often and love hard…even if you were only with your foster Scottie for a short while.
3. Fostering will teach you more about our beloved breed. While non-Scottie owners may think our dogs look very much the same, a Scottie Mom knows no two Scotties are alike. Each have very distinct personalities and, more than likely, the Scottie dog you foster may come with some traits, habits or health/behavioral quirks you may not have encountered before.
4. Fostering will teach the Scottie more about living in a furever home. When you foster a Scottie, you’re not just providing a much-needed roof over his or her head. By socializing with your foster Scottie and giving him or her someone to believe in, you are opening your foster Scottie’s heart and teaching him or her to love again, regardless of what life before you might have been like.
5. You’re saving two Scotties by opening up your home to one. By providing one Scottie a safe place in your home, you are opening up another spot within the rescue or shelter for another pup to stay while he or she awaits a foster or furever home of their own.
So…have I convinced you to open up your home to a Scottie yet? If so, be sure to check out our friends at Tennessee Scottie Rescue, Scottie Kingdom Rescue, Texas Scottie Rescue, St. Louis Scottish Terrier Rescue, North Texas Scottie Rescue, North Florida Scottie Rescue, etc. Know of another great Scottie rescue that may be in need of foster Scottie Moms and Dads? All five are excellent reasons! Well done, Scottie Mom! I just have to keep nudging Maggie’s dad….
I don’t know if they need fosters at the moment, but I’m sure they could use any assistance you have to offer them – ASTRA, Alabama Scottish Terrier Rescue Association. (They’re on Facebook too!!)
Scottie Dad sounds like my dad! Hopefully we will both have foster pups in our homes someday soon! 🙂
Are you kidding me???? There’s a lack of Scotties here, not a lack of willing foster peeps. My peeps would like to foster a Scot (both Kaci-non Scot and I-Scot) are rescues.
I also would like to foster a Scottie but could never give them up I would have to keep them all. But here in this part of NY no Scottie’s to be found only a few that already have a forever home . But I would love another wheaton sometime in the near future and would hope for a rescue!!!Thanks for all you do.
Scottie dad sounds just like my mallie mum bol
We adopted Angus from Lacy’s Legacy, Scottie and Westie rescue, in Maple Lake, MN. “Fostering and adopting homeless Westies and Scotties is the sole purpose of this organization”. Contact lacyslegacyrescue@gmail.com
Scottish Terrier Rescue Northwest is a great group that covers the following areas: Washington State, Northern Oregon and Western Idaho http://www.scottyrescue.org/
They are all volunteers and do it all for the love of Scotties.
Scotties are SUPER rare in Australia… There is only one rescue organisation and they rarely have dogs…
Do what I do, just bring them home, love them up, your spouse will come around once they meet them. Just think of the good you are doing, you are giving a Scot that was other wise thrown out by the curb like trash, a chance to know what it is like to be loved by someone, be part of a family, to sleep in an actuall bed. It is hard to pass the along to someone else when the tome comes but it is wonderful to know you had a part in changing a Scots life. Remember it is always best to ask for forgiveness than permission.
The TN Scottie Rescue is DESPERATE for Foster homes right now, we have two at the Ashland Terrace Animal Hospital in Hixson,TN being boarded now that are ready for their forever homes, if you can foster or would like to adopt please contact Ginger at TN Scottie Rescue.
